Euan’s Quaich
Sterling silver
L 260mm x W 125mm x H 65mm
2010
Hand engraved by Liam Beckett.
This Quaich was commissioned to celebrate the birth of baby Euan. The design for a Quaich, a traditional Scottish drinking vessel, takes its inspiration from the familiar Lincolnshire greeting, “Nah then duck”. My aim with this piece was to pay homage to the birthplaces of Euan’s parents. The polished handles are designed to emulate the beak of a mallard duck. The bowl is finely engraved with a rich coat of feathers. It was a delight to see the response of the parents to the finished piece and to know it will one day be passed onto Euan as part of his inheritance.
