Stage 3: The Making

A deposit of half the total fee is then required in order to proceed with making the commissioned piece. This is when the design process hands over to the making process and the hammer meets the unfashioned silver for the first time. Many thousands of hammer blows later and not only hammer blows but all the time honoured making techniques of silversmithing having been brought to bear upon the silver, a unique silver object will come into being. Throughout this process I have the wishes of the client at the forefront of my mind and I will continue to work the silver until I can fully realise their vision. There is a real sense of joy for me when I complete a commission and I am able to deliver the piece to my client and be able to see their response to the final, uniquely designed silver piece.
